Pumpkin Patching

We slept in after getting home from Arizona.  Jace was thrilled to see all of his toys.  He’d missed them for the past 5 days and wasted no time dumping out all his baskets all over the floor.  He kept saying “hi fun toys!”  While we played, Adam went to pick up Cuervo – and there just happens to be a Dunkin’ Donuts right next door to where Cuervo stayed.  Hurray for us!  Jace did an excellent job eating all the frosting off the top of his donut.  Then he helped me make sure the suitcase was empty.

After breakfast, we headed to the pumpkin patch.  There were animals to visit at this pumpkin patch too, so Jace was happy.  He gets so excited to see the animals now!

Another thing this farm had?  A huge barn filled with corn!  Jace played with the scoops and buckets for a while….  Then, all on his own, he discovered a new way to play….

You scoop up a bowl full of corn…. and then you dump it on your head!  And repeat.  And repeat.  And repeat.

It’s even funnier when Daddy helps….!

After getting the majority of the corn out of his hair and clothes, we headed to the pumpkin patch.  Hay rides only run on the weekends, so we dragged a wagon out to the pumpkins.  Jace loved that part.

He also loved the fact that he found an opening to the corn field.  He kept hiding back there and would jump out and say “peek a boo!”  Eventually we picked out a white pumpkin and a gourd.  And headed for home.

The next day our friends wanted to meet at the pumpkin patch, so we headed back for more.  It was a gorgeous day – seriously!  I think it was our last shorts day of the summer, so we spent as much time outside as we could.  Jace tried to convince Cara that it’s fun to throw corn all over the place, but she was more interested in using the scoops….  They still had fun.

We headed back to the patch and Jace ran around in the rows of corn.  Then he and Cara picked some pumpkins.  It’s so much fun to just let them wander and explore!

When we got home, Jace and I attacked the gigantic mushroom that is eating our driveway.  We’ve gotten these before – in various places on the driveway – but this one was right on the edge and just kept lifting more pieces of our driveway.  I didn’t know what else to do, so I gave Jace the trowel and we went at it.  He had a great time and the end result was the removal of so much mushroom that hopefully the rest won’t destroy any more of the driveway!

After all that outdoor play, I figured Jace would be exhausted.  He went to bed a little before 9pm, but woke up at midnight.  FOR THE DAY.  Agh!  I kept trying to get him to go back to sleep.  He would be quiet for a few minutes, then he’d start talking again.  He was quite creative at 1am.  And 3am.  And 5am.  Finally we gave up and went downstairs.  We played for a long time, then made a list of errands we needed to do.  We jumped in the car around 11am and he was out almost instantly.  Sigh!  First nap he’s taken in weeks.  When he woke up, we went to the mall.  Bought new shoes for both of us – the velcro on his old ones isn’t sticking anymore so he got light-up Paw Patrol shoes and I’m too big to bend over and tie my own shoes so I got slip-ons.

Today was a weekend.  Hurray!  Despite going to bed at 10pm last night, I was exhausted from not sleeping at all the night before.  I got up this morning with Jace, we played, then we had breakfast when Adam woke up.  And then?  Then I took a nap!  It was wonderful.  After nap time (yay!), we headed to the pumpkin patch AGAIN.  We needed to buy pumpkins for carving!  Since it’s a weekend, the hay rides were running.  Jace loved watching the tractor.  He helped us pick our pumpkins.  We’re carving them tomorrow, I think.  Should be fun!

Jace was having so much fun today that he didn’t want to go to bed.  But he finnnnnally fell asleep around 9:45pm.  Fingers crossed he sleeps all night.  So he’s happy and energetic for another fun-filled weekend day tomorrow!
