Grandma and Grandpa – Part 2 of 2 – Strawberries and Baseball

Going strawberry picking was one of my favorite activities while my parents were here.  The weather was great (the sky looks grey in some of the pictures, but it was actually pretty beautiful and sunny!).  It was the last day of berry picking, so the farm warned us that there weren’t many berries left and the ones that were left were pretty small.  I have no idea what the farm must have looked like during peak picking time, but when we got out to the plants, there were bright red strawberries everywhere!

Our adventure started out with a straw ride to the berry patch.

Jace had a bit of trouble staying on the paths between the rows, but he had no trouble at all finding berries.  His face and fingers were quite red by the time we finished picking.

Picking Strawberries – video

After strawberry picking, it was time to pick peas!  They had snow peas, sugar snap peas, and shelling peas.  We had attempted to limit the number of strawberries he ate while we were picking, but we kinda gave up when we got to the peas.  Jace loved them all!

We had delicious strawberry shortcake the next night.  Yummmmmmy!

IronPigs baseball was another super fun activity with Grandma and Grandpa.  We went to three games and had great seats each time.  The first night, we sat in left field, at field level, directly in front of the bullpen.  It’s a new seating area and is pretty cool.  IMG_1511 IMG_1512

Jace had a great time – and loved the hot dogs – but eventually he started to get sleepy.  He perked up when one of the relief pitchers handed him a baseball.  Jace is always up for a game of catch!  But soon he was content to just doze in my lap.  It was a great game – and the IronPigs won in a walkoff!

The next night, we sat in the club level.  It was great!  It was misting for most of the game, but we were warm and comfy.  Plus, we had a great view of the WaWa coffee cup sign.  When the IronPigs pitcher gets a strike out, the WaWa coffee cup releases a big puff of steam.  Jace thought it was a cloud.  And he loves clouds lately.  And the IronPigs got a lot of strike outs.  Made for an exciting game!

On Sunday, we headed back for a Father’s Day day game.  It was hot out!  We were in the very top row of seats down the third base line, which worked out great.  We were contained by a metal rail, so Jace could have some freedom!  We spent some time at the playground with Grandma.  Then Jace sampled everyone’s ballpark treats.  In the picture he’s pretty covered with melted cherry ice and powdered sugar from a funnel cake!

After the game, it was time for Kids Run the Bases.  Jace dawdled around first, second, and third, then turned on the speed and dragged Grandpa to home plate.

After Kids Run the Bases, it was time to play catch on the field!  It was a special Father’s Day promotion.  Jace played catch with his Daddy…. (check out that form!  and that throw!).

Then he played catch with Grandpa….

Then he ran in circles around Grandma for about 5 minutes straight.  I think the sugar had kicked in….!  All in all, it was a great Father’s Day!
