It’s been a while since I’ve posted…. We all caught a cold last week, so we were pretty low-key. We are almost better now, though Jace is still a little congested and I still have no voice. Blah. But here are the highlights from our week.
Monday morning I realized I’d forgotten to make Adam his lunch. Oops. Jace and I made a picnic lunch and met Adam for a lunch date at a park near his quarry. It was fun! Jace petted the bouncy horses, climbed on the playground equipment, and played on the swings. He was having a great time on the swings, but I do like Adam’s expression in the first picture. I don’t think Jace was really in danger of flipping out of the swing, but it makes for a funny picture.

We got some new furniture! I think I posted a picture of the kitties on “their” new couch already. But luckily, a second couch arrived in the mail for Jace. Hurray! Now Cody and Claire each have their own couch! We might have to get a third couch for Jace…. Although he’s pretty happy with the box for now!
I dragged Jace’s slide outside for fun. He thought it was okay, but spent a lot more time tossing things down the slide instead of sliding down himself. Then he remembered the garage door and completely abandoned the slide. He loves that garage door. I dragged the recycling can over so I didn’t have to keep lifting him up to hit the button!
On Friday, Jace and I went on our highly anticipated TRAIN FIELD TRIP! Two of our friends from our playgroup came with us to Roadside America. Roadside America is an “8,000 square foot fully landscaped display” with “up to 18 trains, trollies, and cable cars” all done at the scale of 3/8″ to 1′. It was pretty cool! I’d told Jace we were going to go see trains. For the first 30 minutes of the drive, he was pretty mellow in the backseat. For the last 15 minutes, he shouted “CHOO CHOO” over and over and over. And over and over. At least he was excited! The three other little boys seemed pretty excited too. And other than our little group, no one else was in the attraction, so the boys got to run around as much as they wanted. It was great! Plus, there are buttons all over the place that operate carousels, windmills, and all kinds of other little features in the display. Jace + trains + buttons = full entertainment!

Saturday was a long day. We drove 2.5 hours (3.5 in traffic) to Kingston, NY to attend a funeral. Jace was AMAZING. He did well for the 3.5 hours in the car and then, given the traffic delay, he had to head directly into a quiet funeral service. He lasted 40 minutes before he and I went to explore the atrium until the service ended. Not bad! There were two funny parts during the service…. First, there was a procession of deacons and ???? (fancy and honorable religious people?!). One of the members of the procession carried a really tall candle. Jace likes to blow out candles. As the candle went past us, Jace started blowing at it. Luckily the candle was really tall and no where near Jace’s mouth, but I still found the whole thing cute and entertaining. Second, Jace is getting pretty good with his letters. To keep him occupied during the homily, Jace and I started reading the paper that provided the words for the psalms that were going to be recited. This particular psalm involved a lot of “O Christ”. Which makes sense. And is fine. Except that O Christ starts with an O. And Jace likes the letter O. I had to put the paper away after the third or fourth time Jace pointed and loudly said “Ooooohhhhhhh!” But I really don’t think he was very disruptive!
No funeral pictures, but we did head to a park for an hour after the service. I didn’t get any great pictures, but Adam and Jace both looked very nice all dressed up. And Jace was delighted to discover more pockets!
Sunday was a day for working in the garden. Jace loved the tomato plant we had last year. This year we bought TEN more! We planted them today. Hopefully we’ll be able to provide Jace with a never-ending supply of snacks on his walk into/out of the house!
