It’s taken me way too long to get to this, but finally, here are the Easter pictures! I was trying to get our taxes done before I posted. I’m 2/3 of the way there. Federal? Done. State? Done. Local?! Ugh. So confusing. But in celebration of getting 2/3 of the way through, here’s the Easter post!
Jace and I played with the contents of his Easter basket for quite a while in the morning. He put stickers on everyone and everything (including his bear). Then we headed downstairs. He and his bear wasted no time grabbing the first egg. Jace shook it, realized there was something fun inside, and asked me to open it. Inside was a foil-wrapped chocolate egg! Yummy! He unwrapped it right away and ate it.
Then he looked for the next egg. He picked it up, shook it, and didn’t hear anything. He didn’t bother to investigate – just tossed it back on the ground and headed for the next egg. I tried to show him that the eggs that didn’t rattle still had prizes in them – stickers and plastic jumping frogs and other fun things – but Jace was pretty focused on the chocolate. The next egg he found had a foil-wrapped chocolate egg. He was thrilled!
I tried to get him to put the chocolate in his basket for later, but that was obviously a ridiculous idea. As he was unwrapping it, I explained to him that this was the last chocolate egg he was going to eat right now, but that we’d save the rest for him to eat later. His face in these next two pictures shows you he wasn’t exactly thrilled with my decision. Didn’t stop him from enjoying his chocolate though….!
After he realized he wasn’t getting any more candy, he immediately lost interest in finding the eggs. Instead, he would put his bear at the bottom of the slide and then slide down to “catch” him…. Or smash him. Either way. Then he’d sit the bear up and do it again. He had a great time. And burned off some of that sugar!
It was a nice day, so we decided to head to the park to play on the bigger slides. As we were leaving the house, Jace discovered that the Easter Bunny had left him a basket on the porch too! (How awesome is our neighborhood?! Our neighbors are soooo nice!). Jace was pretty excited. Even more so when he saw all the candy in the basket!
I’m not exactly sure about the order for these next pictures…. Between my pictures and Adam’s pictures and then pajama pictures and clothes pictures, I can’t really piece together what happened on each day. Soooooo, in semi-random order, here’s a summary of our last few days.
Adam was working in the “garden” with a shovel. Jace headed straight for his shovel so he could help out! Eventually, he decided shoveling in the garden wasn’t much fun, so he went back to shoveling the driveway. It’s a quick job when there’s no snow!
On Tuesday night, Adam suggested we go out for dinner to use a gift certificate he had. Going out is tricky. Sometimes it’s okay. Other times it’s just a lot of work to keep Jace happy, wait patiently for our food, take turns eating, etc. I wasn’t thrilled with the idea of going out to eat, but we headed to Texas Roadhouse anyways. AND WE HAD A GREAT TIME! It was SO MUCH FUN. The service was great. We were seated in a booth in the bar, so Jace could watch a zillion TVs and be as loud as he wanted. Our booth backed up to a walkway, so there were no other diners for Jace to touch with sticky hands. The bread was a huge hit with Jace (and me – I think we ended up with three baskets). And the food was amazing. Sooooo good. Jace ate a ton, Adam and I got to eat at the same time, and we didn’t have to do any dinner dishes. Great, great, great, great dinner out! Hurray!
Ah, now some random pictures. If you look closely in this first one, you can see Cuervo nose-to-nose with a groundhog. These groundhogs are huge and Cuervo finally caught one. He didn’t bite it, just flipped it with his nose and chased it around. Somehow Cuervo managed to duck under the fence behind our house and followed the groundhog into the huge fenced in drainage area. They ran around for a while before I called Cuervo inside. He was worn out!
The next picture shows Jace playing with his favorite toy of the week. I think he likes the contained little area between the walls and the trampoline. And he has a great time sending all the animals down the track!
Jace and I headed to Target for a few items. I grabbed a basket, but Jace wanted to carry it. A few steps into the store he decided he didn’t really want to carry the basket, he wanted to sit in the basket. I told him I wasn’t going to carry him around the store in a basket, so we compromised. Basket in a shopping cart. He loved it. We bought cake mix and frosting and headed home to make Adam’s birthday cake. Jace was very helpful with the beaters.
I mentioned that he’s very excited about letters lately. He likes to point out letters he knows anywhere he sees them – the outside of stores, product labels in the stores, or, apparently, on mats at the gym! He and Ella played around in the bounce house. It was impossible to get a picture of both of them standing up at the same time. I have about 15 pictures. Jace is standing in a few. Ella is standing in a few. And they’re both on the ground in the majority! But they had fun.
When we got home, Jace played with a flashlight for a very long time. He’s figured out how to crank things which means the wind up flashlights and the jack-in-the-box have a whole new level of appeal. But eventually he got tired of the flashlight and went back to his favorite toy of the week.
And now he’s asleep! Sleep has been ridiculous lately. It takes forever to get him down and then he’s up again a few hours later. Today we skipped nap time, so he was very ready for bed by 7:30pm. Not sure what this means for a wake up time, but he seems to be sleeping soundly for now! Which is good, because we have a busy weekend planned for Adam’s birthday!
