A Visit with Grandma and Aunt Amelia

Jace is into everything lately.  He’s such a mimic!  He see you typing, he types.  He see you putting on make up, he puts on make up.  He see you shaving, he shaves.  When he finds keys, he slams them into door knobs.  When he finds sample credit cards, he swipes them on the walls.  He sweeps with the broom, he makes a vroom noise when he touches the vacuum, he uses baby wipes to erase his white board, he writes with any pen or marker he can find, he holds phones to his ear and babbles, then ends the conversation with “bye”.  He does it all!IMG_6672IMG_6681 IMG_6683 IMG_6692 IMG_6693

Amelia and Cherie came to visit!  It was perfect timing, actually.  I went to the doctor and my leg is broken.  Luckily, only the fibula is broken.  That means I can still walk on the leg while it’s healing.  Yaaaaay!  I limp and have serious issues with the stairs, but at least I can still get around.  It was wonderful having Cherie and Amelia here to help me carry – and chase! – Jace around the house.

I really tried to sort through pictures from their visit, but there are just waaaaay too many “good ones”.  So, here’s a picture-intensive summary of their visit!

Jace and Chloe had a play date the morning before they arrived….IMG_6709 IMG_6713

Then we spent the evening hanging out in the playroom.  Jace loves books.

We moved the bird house/cat toy upstairs recently, and Jace thought it was fun to hide behind it.  And to surprise the person sitting on the edge of the house.  He’s so cute!

We did all kinds of stuff with Cherie and Amelia.  We went out for enchiladas, we went to storytime at the library, we did some shopping, we got tons of groceries, and we played, played, played in the playroom.

Jace kept everyone entertained during mealtimes.

He and Amelia checked out the toy aisle at Sam’s Club.

We babysat Chloe for a few hours.  She was excited to share some snacks with Jace.  Then she decided to feed the snacks to Jace – with both hands!

Jace is still teething like crazy, so he enjoyed some downtime – cuddling with Grandma and playing with a stuffed animal.  As a result of the teething, it’s been difficult to get a picture of Jace when he doesn’t have his fingers in his mouth….  As evidenced by these pictures of Jace wearing Amelia’s shoes and Jace in a stare-down with Cuervo!

After Jace went to bed, we spent our evenings playing cards.  Fun, fun, fun!  I know the picture is blurry, but you can see how hard everyone was laughing!

The next evening, we went to the buffet for dinner.  Jace wasn’t very interested in chewing because his teeth were really hurting him.  Luckily, you don’t have to chew jello!  The spoon was too slow for Jace, so he switched to his hands.  Then that was too slow, so he just ate straight from the bowl.  Probably a good thing….  I thought Cherie was going to lose a finger for a while.  Jace was all about the jello!

His interest in eating straight from the bowl carried over to breakfast the next morning.  Who needs pancakes when you can just lick the bowl?  ‘Course he did end up with batter in his hair….

On Sunday, we headed to Crayola!  Jace and Amelia played in Toddler Town and then climbed around on the jungle gym.  It was great having so many people there to chase Jace up the stairs, through the glow-in-the-dark room, around the tables, and everywhere else.

Everyone did some coloring….

….and Jace became friends with a crayon and a marker.IMG_6918 IMG_6915

Jace likes food.  I was sorting through pictures and realized that I have several pictures showing that Jace would move from one side of the couch to the other, depending on who was offering him a bite of their ice cream.  Then I noticed that Cuervo moves from one side of the couch to the other too….  Funny!

Adam and I went on a dinner date while Jace played with his Aunt and his Grandma.

HE SLEPT SO WELL THAT NIGHT!  I was so impressed!  Set a new record by far.  Jace slept from 9:04pm – 4:36am.  That’s SEVEN AND A HALF HOURS!  Yaaaay!  He was up for 2.5 hours, then fell back asleep and slept til 10am.  I brought him downstairs when he woke up.  He was in a very cuddly mood.

After the drowsyness finally wore off, Jace was ready to play!  He showed off his new method of wearing necklaces (tucks them under his chin and then walks around showing them off, it’s hilarious).

He read some books with Grandma and played in the playplace at Chick-fil-A with Amelia.

He even had his first latte!
IMG_7044 IMG_7045

He played catch with his daddy (he’s getting pretty good!).IMG_7064 IMG_7070 IMG_7069 IMG_7067

The highlight of the evening was a fun game of chase with Amelia.  Jace starts the game by hiding behind the slide or pressing himself against the wall.  He waits until he’s sure he’s got Amelia’s attention, then he makes a break for it, shrieking the whole time.  Very cute.  And a great way to burn off energy!  He loved that he had a captive audience watching from the couch.

After all that excitement, you’d think he would sleep, right?  But nooooooo.  And we’re back where we started with sleep.  I just don’t get it!  Despite the lack of sleep, Jace keeps waking up happy and ready to play.  Today we headed to Crayola with Jen and Chloe.  Jace had a great time!  He was very friendly and social – and explored all over the place.  He’s fighting us about bedtime right now, but maybe once he finally falls asleep he’ll sleep well.  Between today’s time at Crayola and a week of fun with Grandma and Aunt Amelia, he’s got lots of fun adventures to fill his dreams!
