The blue tunnels are a huge hit – for Jace and for the cats. I have a hard time getting them folded up each evening because there is almost always a cat in one of the tubes. Jace has started taking other toys into the tubes. He likes to play with his duplo blocks while sitting in the mesh area so he can look out at everything.
Vivian and Jeffrey came to visit! They were driving through the area and stopped by to see us. We got to show them our house, our neighborhood, and even the pool. It was fun to see them! Jace ended the evening by practicing walking back and forth between Vivian and me. He gets so happy when he’s walking! Sometimes it’s more of a lunge of faith – if we weren’t there to catch him he would definitely end up face down on the carpet – but sometimes it looks like actual (semi)balanced steps. He was happy to show off for Vivian.
Nap times are pretty cute around here. Sleep on Sunday and Monday nights was SO GOOD. Jace slept one three hour block (!) each of those nights. It was wonderful. But since Monday it’s gone downhill. Last night was a disaster. Jace’s new sleeping trick is that he sleeps for about 3 minutes at a time. I’ll lay there next to him and he’ll finally fall asleep. And I’ll creep out of the room super quietly. And three minutes later he’s awake and crying. He’s just not falling into deep sleep at all. I don’t know if it’s teething pain or excitement about learning to walk or just more of the same not sleeping pattern. It doesn’t seem to bother him much, ’cause he wakes up happy each morning!
Jace is quite the helper lately. He likes to be about six inches from me at all times. That means he looks in the same cabinets as I do, goes through the same drawers in the fridge, and follows me from room to room to room. He’s a pretty cute shadow!
Walking is Jace’s favorite activity. In the first picture, he’s demonstrating his new-found love of walking (jumping?) down the stairs. In the second picture, he’s holding on to the window sill, but he’s about to let go and walk to the chair in the foreground of the picture. He’s getting braver! Today he got brave at the pool and it didn’t turn out so well. He was walking in the water and holding on to the side. He was about 2″ (literally) from the corner when he decided to let go of the wall. And he promptly fell, face first, into the opposing wall. It was sad. He has a little bruise on his cheek. And he howled so loud. Owwwie.
Speaking of the pool – let’s talk about tantrums. This is a new thing for us. When Jace doesn’t get his way, he now throws a tantrum. If you’re holding his hands and walking with him and you want to go a different direction than he does, Jace will try and pull you in the direction he wants. If that doesn’t work, he will arch and throw his entire body backwards. And you’d better be there to catch him otherwise he will land on his back/head on whatever surface you’re standing on. It’s exhausting! And ridiculous! I mean, we do just about anything this kid wants, but if we don’t want to play in the middle of the street or if we don’t want to walk off the pool deck into 12 feet of water, he goes crazy. It’s not great. It doesn’t happen too often, but we’re still trying to figure out how to deal with it….
Jace and I went to a new playground today. It’s less than a mile from our house and we really liked it. Jace played on the bouncy toys, tried out the slides, and crawled all over the playground equipment, but the swings are still his favorite! Sunny days are the best!
