Guess how much Jace weighs? EIGHT POUNDS AND FIVE OUNCES!
Babies are supposed to gain between 0.6 and 1.0 ounces per day. Jace gains, on average, 1.8 ounces per day. ‘Course while I was pregnant my doctor told me to gain 0.5 to 1.0 pounds a week and I consistently gained 2+ pounds each week. There’s a good chance he would have been a 10 pound baby if he’d been born at 40 weeks! Our pediatrician says his weight gain is fine. She says she doesn’t worry about excessive gain during the first three months, so that’s good.
SUMMARY OF TODAY’S APPOINTMENT
* Blood Work: His iron levels are still really low, but they have improved slightly from two weeks ago. This means that, in theory, his body is working to produce more red blood cells and he’ll be able to get back to “normal” levels on his own. We have a re-check in two weeks to make sure his levels are still improving.
* Hip Click: His hip is still “clicking” – no improvement, so we’ll likely be headed to a specialist for an ultrasound after our next appointment (in two weeks).
* Umbilical Hernia: I think I forgot to mention this before, but it still fine – fairly mild and hopefully it will correct itself within the next 12-18 months. If not, they usually don’t recommend surgery unless it hasn’t self-corrected by age 5.
* Shots: Jace got his second Hepatitis B shot today. It was nice to get it done today because he’ll get two other shots next appointment.
Aside from weighing more, Jace LOOKS bigger too! I pulled a few earlier pictures for comparison. I like the car seat comparison – you can really tell how much he’s grown just since being home!
